Introduction

To almost all of the world Adolf Hitler was a cruel santic leader who was the reason for the death of about six million Jews.  What many people fail to ask is about his personal life.  Was Hitler evil all his life and if not what made him act this way?  Very seldom do people know much of his life before being a dictator.

Basic Facts About Adolf Hitler

  • Military leader / dictator of Germany
  • Cause of death - suicide
  • Hitler caused WWII
  • Responsible for the death of around 6 million Jews

 Hitler's Childhood

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th,1889 in Australia. He had six siblings all of which died in childhood with the exception of Adolf and his sister Paula.  Alois Hitler, Adolf's father, died when Adolf was a young child of the age 13.  After the death of his father Adolf dropped out of school with the permission of his mother.

Venturing the World

Hitler moved to Vienna and was a casual laborer shortly after dropping out of school.  Despite the fact that Hitler's father rejected any idea of Hitler taking an interest in art, Hitler wanted to chase his dream to be an artist, to the left is an example of his work. He applied to Academy of Fine Arts twice but unfortunately was rejected both times.

Coming Into Power

In the beginning of WWI Adolf Hitler served in the German army.  After the war he became outraged at the fact that Germany surrendered he then became determined to enter politics. In 1919 Adolf Hitler became the leader and 55th member of a small anti semitic party called the German Worker's Party that was later renamed National Socialist German Worker's Party known today as the Nazi Party. From there he gained followers and people will to financially back him.  In 1923 Adolf was sent to prison for 5 year for an attempt to take over the German government.  However; he was only in prison for a meek 9 months.  After being released from prison he decided to take over the German government but legally this time to avoid prison or further punishment.  On July 30th, 1938 Hitler became Chancellor and later took the title Führer and Reichskanzler meaning the Leader and Reich Chancellor. As dictator he started the second world war, killed millions of people, started the holocaust which was influenced from the islamic people, and eventually killed himself. The day before killing himself he got married to Eva Braun then they committed suicide together.

The topic of WWII and Adolf Hitler will make anyone cringe just thinking about what people had to endure and even relatives that were alive during this time.  They may not have been effected like the Jewish people but they remember Pearl Harbor and losing friends and family in the war and the way they lived their everyday lives was affected.

I chose the topic of Hitler’s personal life because when you learn about WWII you learn all about the atrocious things that Hitler caused but history class does not teach you about Hitler as a person.  One cannot judge a person based on their actions without knowing their reasoning.  Knowing the back story gives a whole new outlook on Adolf Hitler.

The intriguing aspect of Adolf Hitler’s past is that he enjoyed fine arts and actually was an amazing painter.  None of his art pieces were ever famous however, they were still very remarkable.  When I think of Hitler the first thoughts are that Hitler would be very strict and straight forward lacking the ability of fun and all that fun inhabits.  Learning that Adolf loved to paint was quite a shock.

None of my views of the Holocaust really changed from learning this information.  The fact that the Holocaust was a wrong and a terribly tragic event within history is still an understatement.  I still feel as though the suffering of all those people were unnecessary.

My responsibilities I have gained since I learned of the horrifying holocaust and genocide are to always second guess people who are in control of our country and or government.  Making sure that their motives are pure and not filled with thoughts of killing a whole race of people just for being who they are seem like a my responsibility as an American citizen.  Another responsibility would be to not judge people and always give everyone a fair chance to prove themselves as people and not to condemn them because of their God, their family, or their origin.
